Will Piumi be dropped from Liyasevana?

Piyumi Leeniyagala, who presents the ‘Liyasevana’ programme in Swarnavahini is to be dropped from the show, ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ learns.

A prolonged disagreement with Swarnavahaini Program Director Buddhika Kulasekara has led to the replacement of Piyumi, internal sources from the TV channel say.

Piyumi Leeniyagala, who is a model and programmed presenter rose to popularity after hosting the show ‘Colombo Fashion Show’ broadcast in Derana.

After resigning from Derana, she joined Swarnavahini, and hosted several morning shows.

Despite her innocent appearance, she is a tough nut to crack, sources from the field say.

Due to her similarity in looks to East Asians, Piyumi is rather fond of being addressed to as ‘Piyumi Lee’, reports say.

Suspended Buddhika Pathirana barred from UNP MPs’ meeting

Matara district MP Buddhika Pathirana, presently on suspension by the UNP, was barred from attending the parliamentary group meeting of the party today (Oct. 18).

When he tried to enter the meeting room, chief opposition John Amaratunga said a suspended member cannot attend the meeting.

Then, the MP has left the meeting.

Deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya and MP Dayasiri Jayasekara noted that the party cannot go forward with differences.

Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said he has taken disciplinary action against Mr. Pathirana after considering reports he has received about him.

It is very surprising that such information is published to make us fall mentally. Some people think to make us fall down mentally. We are already mentally weak and cannot be made weaker any further. We are down completely mentally.
Here is the person I was friendly for over five years for everyone to see. It is very wrong to publish incorrect information especially in web sites. Please do not do it for us”.

For Bharatha’s killing Duminda is not a suspect

The whole of last week the talk was that Duminda Siva was responsible for Bharatha’s shooting.During a discussion with the BBC’s ‘Sandeshaya’ programme, the Head of the Media Unit of the Defence Ministry, says a completely a different story. What he says is that Duminda Silva is not a suspect for the killing. What he is indirectly saying that once Duminda Silva recovers he would not be taken into custody. According to Bharatha’s driver’s evidence Duminda Silva assaulted Bharatha and ordered to shoot. The BBC had questioned: The answer given by Lakshman Hulugalle was: “Duminda Silva at present is a patient. There is no evidence to say that he killed Bharatha. His personal body guards were at the scene of the incident. Anyhow none of his body guards are in custody.”
The BBC had questioned “then who are those arrested. In reply Hulugalle had said they are from the underworld. They had obtained their visas to go to India prior to this incident. Then this may have been pre planned the BBC had replied”

The left side of his body is paralysed

Duminda Silva is still in the Intensive care Unit of Sri Jayewardanapura Hospital. The panel of specialists are perturbed about his condition as it is not satisfactory. If he lives he would be a paralysed person for life. An operation was done to the right side of his head. But his left side of the body is completely paralysed.
Another bullet embedded in a delicate place of the brain is too risky to be removed as it would prove fatal. The bullet embedded is not harmful to him as the whole body may become paralysed.

All medical reports are confidential:
To take him overseas as requested by his family members is against the wished of the Specialist doctors. It is not good to even shake his body. All his medical reports are kept confidential. Even his family members have no access to them.

Only Duminda’s Mother and Sister had been allowed to see him for a moment:
After he was entered into the ICU no one was allowed to see or visit hi. Even Senior DIG Anura Senanayake who is conducting Bharatha’s investigations had not been allowed to see him. About 2 days ago a doctor who had not disclosed his name had told the ‘Sunday Leader’ that Duminda’s mother and sister were allowed just to see him for just a few minutes.

Duminda’s condition fluctuating, not clear:
Although he had regained consciousness he is still not speaking. His condition is very unstable according to specialist doctors. He is under close supervision according to the Director of Health at the Sri Jayewardanapura Hospital.
